Cabin air filters, when & how to change them
Breathe Easy with New Cabin Air Filters
This is an inexpensive and easy maintenance item every Element owner should be doing more often. There is no set time for how often they should be changed, but do it at least once a year. Think about all the different environments you take your element into, from major cities to dirt roads in the middle of nowhere. Every environment has its own air to filter and in this post we will walk you through changing your Elements cabin air filter.
For those of you with seasonal allergies you may want to change them more often.
Lets step back and start with the basics of how and when the filters are “filtering air”. They are ultimately always on, but when you activate the recycle button they are filtering all of the air.
You are probably aware that your vehicle’s engine has an air filter, but did you know that your car’s HVAC (heating ventilation and air conditioning) system may also have one? Commonly called a cabin air filter, it performs the same duties for your HVAC system as the engine air filter does for your car’s engine.
While there is no warning light that comes on when your cabin air filter needs changing, there are some signs that you may notice:
Reduced air circulation inside your passenger compartment
Diminished heating and air conditioning performance
Musty odor in the cabin of the vehicle
Cabin air intake ducting may begin to make an unusual whistling sound
If you observe one or more of these signs, it is likely that the time has come to change it. This is a simple and easy task most owners can handle.
