Wind Noise at doors

This is a common problem with Elements and is often made worse when the front door slams while the rear door is still open. The Elements unique doors require the rear door to be closed before the front door, but if you’re parked on a hill with the rear door open, that front door can slam back against the Element and force the top outside edge of the door to bend outward. This creates the same gap that one would use to break into a locked vehicle.

Start by checking your door seals, use a proper conditioning solution to prevent the rubber from drying out. We recommend using 303 Rubber Seal Protectant on your seals. Do not skip this step, at $10 this easy to apply solution will go a long way towards extending the life of your door seals.

Next we will walk you through the steps to closing that air gap…

Please note: Fifth Element Camping is not responsible for any damage you may do to your vehicle. Proceed at your own risk.

Closing the doors out of order can create a gap in the front doors seal against the vehicle. This can lead to wind noise and possibly water in the cabin.

You can check this by standing outside you E with all the doors closed. Check the top outside corner of either front door where it meets the rear door. Visually check to see if they are flush (one is not protruding out more than the other), if the front door has been forced out, it will protrude out further than the rear door and this is likely where you wind noise is coming from.

The quick and easy fix…

  1. Roll the window all the way down

  2. stand on the inside of the open door

  3. place your knee against door

  4. gently pull the top outside corner towards yourself

  5. check fit

  6. repeat step 4 until fit is flush with rear door.
